PHP provides a number of built-in functions for working with strings. Here are some of the most commonly used string functions in PHP:

strlen($string) - returns the length of a string
strpos($string, $search) - returns the position of the first occurrence of a substring within a string
substr($string, $start, $length) - returns a portion of a string specified by a start position and length
str_replace($search, $replace, $string) - replaces all occurrences of a substring in a string with a new substring
strtolower($string) - converts a string to lowercase
strtoupper($string) - converts a string to uppercase
trim($string) - removes whitespace from the beginning and end of a string
explode($delimiter, $string) - splits a string into an array using a delimiter
implode($glue, $array) - joins elements of an array into a string using a glue string
str_pad($string, $length, $pad_string, $pad_type) - pads a string to a certain length with a specified padding string
These functions are just a few examples of what you can do with strings in PHP. You can find more string functions and their descriptions in the PHP manual.
